Starting your day with a warm beverage is a key part of Ayurveda dinacharya, the healthy daily routine. Drinking a warm beverage first thing in the morning has a positive effect on digestion, energy level, and overall well-being. But why is a warm beverage recommended over a cold one? Our bodies, according to Ayurveda, are composed of three doshas, including vata, pitta, and kapha. Each dosha is related to certain qualities and functions in the body. In the morning, our bodies are naturally in a condition of increased vata dosha, which is characterized by coldness, dryness, and mobility. Drinking a warm beverage helps to balance this vata dosha and bring warmth and nourishment to the body.
Warm Water
Drinking a glass of warm water first thing in the morning help in flushing out toxins from the body, enhancing digestive power and maintaining the hydration.
Ginger Tea
Ginger is a potent herb possessing medicinal properties such as, aiding digestion, lowering inflammation, and boosting immunity. To prepare ginger tea, just grate a small piece of ginger into a cup of hot water and let steep for 4-5 minutes.
Turmeric Milk
Turmeric is another effective herb that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. To make turmeric milk, heat up a cup of milk and add 2 pinch of turmeric powder, a pinch of black pepper, and a sweetener (honey).
Conclusion
It's important to take the moment to sit and enjoy the beverage mindfully, instead of hurrying up. This can help to set a positive attitude for the rest of the day and promote a sense of inner peace and well-being.
